Whitney Elizabeth Houston is a performer who was born in Newark, New Jersey on the 9th of August 1963. The parents of her are gospel stars Cissy Houston(n e Emily Lee Drinkard) and John Russell Houston Jr. Whitney's cousin Dionne warwick is also a singer. The mother of Whitney Houston and her daughter began to sing professionally together at the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark in the year Whitney was just 15 years old. The two sang backing vocals on Chaka Khan's track from 1978 Im Every Woman. Her mother, Jermaine, and Lou Rawls were a few of the artists she backed up. She was also briefly as a model for Seventeen magazine in the year 1981. The vocals she sang with the New York-based group Material brought attention to major record labels which included Arista. The label signed her to Arista in 1983 and was a part of the company for the remainder of her professional career. The first Whitney Houston album was released in the year 1985. It became one of the best-selling albums of an artist. Tracks like the title track, The Greatest Love of All, How Can I Tell If You Give Good Love or Save all My Love were all released off the album. These songs allowed Houston to reach the seven US top tens, which surpassed even the top tens of The Beatles. The album was released in 1987 and has sold more than 25 million copies worldwide. The Whitney follow-up in 1987 with the singles What Do Broken Hearts GO and I Wanna Dance With Somebody helped to further build upon the success of her debut album. But it was, the 1992 movie The Bodyguard that solidified her position as one of the world's most well-known performers. While her movie performance and its soundtrack were not popular but her Dolly Parton cover I Will Always Love You as well as the accompanying album topped charts all over the world for several months. That same year she married Bobby Brown who was a former New Edition singer. She had their sole daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown. They were married on March 23, 1993.
